Dr. Radhika Lakshmanan
Consultant Breast & General Surgeon

I am a specialist breast and oncoplastic surgeon dedicated to providing excellent service in breast surgery including diagnosis and management of all types of breast problems including breast cancer.

I treat a range of breast conditions ranging from benign conditions such as breast cysts, lumps, lactational problems, nipple discharge, male breast disorders such as gynecomastia to breast cancer.

My surgical expertise involves all types of breast surgical techniques including oncoplastic breast surgery.  This is a fairly novel technique that evolved in the late 90s. I am pleased to say that I am among the handful of surgeons trained in this complex sub-specialization in Singapore.  I did my advanced training as an honorary clinical fellow of the prestigious Nottingham Breast Institute, the United Kingdom in 2010. This is a scholarship sponsored by the Ministry of Health under the human manpower development program. I spent a year working with experts in oncoplastic breast surgery and various aspects of breast cancer management.  Upon returning to Singapore, this was translated into helping the local population and realized that I had to modify certain techniques to suit the different body habitus here. This also explains why no one technique suits another. Many patients have thus far benefitted from the skills, knowledge and support my clinic provides. Surgeons need to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in their field, so I strive to upkeep my skills and knowledge by participating in regional, local, international forums. I had the opportunity to spend a week in Japan in 2015 at Kameda Medical Centre to further my skills in minimally invasive breast procedures.

I obtained my basic medical degree (MBBS) in 1997 in Singapore. This was followed by Masters of Medicine in Surgery and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008. My initial years of training in general surgery allows me to be equipped in general surgery work as well mainly doing endoscopies such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy as I dedicate most of my time in breast care work since moving to private practice.

I converse well in English, Malay and Tamil. I give public awareness talks on breast cancer in collaboration with the Singapore Cancer Society and the Breast Cancer Foundation.

My consultations can range from evaluation to management of breast conditions. I also provide a second opinion in the management of complex breast conditions, namely in breast cancer. My mission is to be a surgeon who provides excellent medical service with the purity of intent and compassion for my patients.
