Breast Screening - BREAST ULTRASOUND

Breast Screening or Breast Ultrasound scans serve as an adjunct screening tool or it can serve as a screening tool in women aged less than 40 years of age. This does not utilise radiation and hence it is safe for pregnant women as well.

An ultrasound probe will be used by the radiographer after gel is applied to the breasts to visualise any lesions which can be detected. Sometimes Dr Radhika may need to countercheck with her own ultrasound in the event any abnormalities were detected by the radiology department.

Ultrasound scans are also used to guide biopsies of lumps if required.
